Experience Hamina in a different way – a guided tour is the best way to step into the vivid history of Hamina. Book a tour with a local guide and take a look around the local historical sites and museum, or explore the past of the countryside.

Choose a themed tour to gain a better understanding of the things that interest you -the town, the war history, or the lovely church, even a tour of the monuments.  Perhaps you would like to walk about town with a local, historical figure? 

In addition to taking a more conventional tour in the center of Hamina, you can book a bus to take your group to the surrounding areas, further into the countryside.

Venture out of town into the countryside

Take a trip outside of the circular town to visit quaint small towns and famous estates which once housed noble families from the area. Now the towns are lively communities, in which you can enjoy Hamina country life. 

Enchanting small towns in the countryside a short distance from the center of Hamina have a lot to offer: art and local food, nature trails for hiking and off-road biking, amazing views of the surroundings. You can also find unique activities to partake of -how would you like to visit and enjoy a meal at a local farm, relax with some alpacas or perhaps sleep in a cabin with a view of a lake or of the sea?

In the winter, you are not far from ski slopes at Uuperinrinteet and there is many cross country tracks to choose from.  Around Hamina there are activities to keep you happy year round! 

Take a bike or go on a hike

When you want to go for a hike or bike ride around Hamina, you are in luck! Walk the town nature path or Fortress trail in the center of Hamina.

Hamina reagion offers diverse nature trails nearby, outside of town, as well. You can traverse the extensive Portimon polut -trails to admire the beauty of the surroundings. Take a break and have a cup of coffee at a lean-to, dip in for a swim and enjoy the peacefulness!

Hop on a bike to the Pitkäthiekat Camping recreation area – it has a lovely beach by the sea for swimming. 

Have a swim and a sauna

Choose your favorite place to swim – or try them all out! Hamina has multiple beaches to enjoy. Swim in by the sea or in a lake. You can also dip in the Hamina Spa year round, right in the center of town. There is also a outdoor pool and a jacuzzi. Of course, being in Finland, we have multiple places to rent a sauna for private use as well.

 

Sail and see the archipelago 

Take a look towards the horizon and the Hamina archipelago! Whether you like to canoe, row or sail by boat – your own, a rented one, or with a skipper –  you will surely experience unforgettable moments by the sea in Hamina. 

You can access the archipelago by taking a liner. The cruises leave from the harbour in Sapokka, Kotka and you can make reservations and see timetables at Meriset.fi. From Hamina, you can sail to the National Park of Eastern Gulf of Finland, the islands of Ulko-Tammio and the idyllic fishermen’s village,Tammio.

You can also commission a boat and skipper to take you to the island of your choice on a timetable that suits you via Bout cruises or the TakSea service. The Tervasaari island offers a guest marina for visitors arriving in Hamina with their own boat. 

Relax and treat yourself
